Methodology

Fitwise uses millimetres as its internal calculation unit. Inputs may be typed as mm, cm, m, inches or feet and inches; display units can be switched independently. Sourced product measurements, geometry derived from explicit formulas and user-selected assumptions are kept distinct.

Fit states

Generic item and access review

The universal calculator compares a rectangular item's width, depth and height with a room's inside dimensions, testing the two axis-aligned floor orientations. Optional door and corridor checks use an upright narrow face and item height. The model does not simulate tilting, diagonal passage, turns, stairs, handles, packaging bulges, thresholds, sloping ceilings or irregular room geometry. Measure the narrowest clear point along the full route.

Quantity output is a maximum single-layer rectangular grid estimate with the entered gap. It does not model stacking, load limits, access lanes, supports or obstacles. Mattress and workspace planners have their own explicit orientation and clearance assumptions.

What a result does not mean

A calculation is not a delivery guarantee, building-code determination, accessibility check, safety assessment or ergonomic recommendation. Manufacturer dimensions can vary by model and revision; verify the exact item's external dimensions and the site's clear openings before buying, moving or installing it. Any clearance target not attributed to a specific source is a user-selected planning preference, not a universal minimum.
